Client: Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council
Location: Redcar, North Yorkshire
A new £31m flagship development including a leisure centre, civic facilities and a business centre set within high quality public realm forming one of Redcar's largest regeneration schemes. It has been a truly collaborative approach involving the public, stakeholders and all levels of the Council throughout the design process. The concept for the public realm draws on the rhythm and flow of movement and strands of connectivity whilst inspiration taken from the historic context and the nearby beach can be seen in the colour palette and forms of the bespoke pebble seats. Proposals include a significant new public square and boulevard with a strong relationship to the internal spaces. OOBE were responsible for bringing local artist Kathryn Hodgkinson on board who is incorporating artwork into the building and public realm.
