Client: Hart District Council
Location: Fleet, Hampshire
OOBE were invited to develop a landscape masterplan alongside GT Architects for a new leisure centre in Hampshire. Edenbrook Leisure Centre is to be developed on a greenfield site which borders Fleet Country Park to the west, a new residential hub to the north and Calthorpe School along Hitches Lane to the east. The site accommodates a wide range of both indoor and outdoor facilities which constitute an iconic sport and leisure facility within Hart District.
The landscape design has been well thought through to reflect the form of the building. The external landscape plays a key part in linking the internal language with the externals around the new multi sports / recreation hub and also in providing a well-connected network to the surrounding areas.
A new flagship leisure centre for Hampshire
The landscape design includes a large, open entrance plaza with curved grass amphitheatre is embellished with a suite of contemporary street furniture. Incorporated into the design are areas of woodland, meadowland, structural planting, mounding and informal areas for play, which help to tie in with the neighbouring context whilst keeping the site secluded from its immediate surroundings. Elegant, curved landforms create privacy and swales filter runoff from the pitches to create habitats for wildlife.
The project is currently on site and due to be opened to the public early 2017.
