Location: Hartlepool, County Durham
OOBE are working as part of the Jomast team, alongside +3 Architecture, JNP Group and Signet Planning on the ambitious Trincomalee Wharf scheme which will deliver a four-star hotel, restaurants, shops, office and apartments. The 4.6 ha site lies at the south end of the Hartlepool Marina and will help link the area with Hartlepool town centre.
A mixed-use development inspired by candy
The design team worked closely to create a rational masterplan that meets the clients brief but also responds to the historic setting. Public realm inspired by the vivid colours of bubblegum and candy, set within a clear movement network, formed the framework for development. Three new pedestrian friendly boulevards will create important links across the site with the central boulevard forming the spine with the two parking courtyards either side forming the lungs. The existing dockside walk that runs east-west across the site will be recreated as an active and animated piece of water frontage that connects into the new boulevards and back into existing pedestrian connections. Surface patterning, street furniture and lighting columns proposed are simple, colourful and contemporary to give a playful feel to the spaces.
