South Lanarkshire leisure centre

Leisure centres are a really important part of our culture, serving as vital hubs for health, wellness, and community connection. That's why we at OOBE are thrilled to be part of the design team for the new Larkhall Leisure Centre, a project that could become a fantastic asset for the South Lanarkshire community.

It has just been announced that plans for the new centre, designed by Holmes Miller Architects, have been submitted to the council. This is a huge milestone for a project that has been shaped by community feedback, ensuring the new facility will meet the real needs of local residents. The new centre will replace the current outdated facility, bringing a state-of-the-art space that is both welcoming and sustainable.

As part of the wider project team, OOBE is proud to be contributing to the landscaping to the south-west of the building, creating a serene backdrop for the pool area that will enhance the overall experience.

The new Larkhall Leisure Centre is planned to be a modern, inclusive hub featuring a 25-metre, 6-lane swimming pool with a movable floor, a fully equipped gym, a multi-use fitness and dance studio, and a 3-court games hall. Sustainability is a key focus for this project. The building is designed using Passivhaus principles, with features like passive solar heat gain, thermal zoning, and the use of low-carbon materials such as Cross Laminated Timber (CLT). These measures will ensure the centre is not only a hub for community well-being but also a building that operates with minimal environmental impact.

We believe this new facility will be a source of immense pride for Larkhall, providing a space for generations to come to live healthier, more active lives.
