The Pineapples shortlist - Climate Resilience

We are absolutely delighted to announce that OOBE’s work on the Millport Coastal Flood Protection Scheme has been shortlisted for the 2026 Pineapple Awards within the Climate Resilience category.

Organised by The Developer in partnership with Design Council, The Pineapples are a unique set of awards that celebrate excellence in place-making and recognise projects that make a genuine positive impact on social, environmental, and economic wellbeing.

For the team at OOBE, being recognised in this category is a significant milestone that underscores our commitment to creating landscapes which are both beautiful and robust enough to withstand the environmental challenges of the future

The Millport Coastal Flood Protection Scheme represents a landmark investment designed to secure the long-term future of the Isle of Cumbrae. It is a project of vital importance, designed to defend homes, businesses, and essential infrastructure from the dual threats of rising sea levels and increasingly frequent, powerful storms. Rather than a purely functional intervention, the scheme reflects years of meaningful collaboration with the local community. Residents were instrumental in shaping the aesthetics and materiality of the design, ensuring that the new defences remain sympathetic to Millport’s unique coastal character while improving accessibility for all who visit the seafront.

By prioritising a community-led approach, the project has resulted in a future-proof design that strengthens local safety and bolsters the regional economy. It preserves the cherished seafront while providing a resilient response to the accelerating coastal risks that lie ahead.

This achievement is the result of a dedicated partnership delivered for North Ayrshire Council, and we are proud to share this shortlisting with Turner & Townsend, Royal HaskoningDHV, and Van Oord. We look forward to the final results and celebrate the collective effort required to deliver such a transformative piece of resilient infrastructure.
